The Schmalz Friction Plate ZUB VCBL-R is the matching accessory for VCBL-R and VCBL-N vacuum blocks when used on sacrificial boards in nesting applications — the friction lining plate increases the holding force of the vacuum block on the sacrificial board through frictional engagement and prevents the workpiece from slipping sideways during milling and drilling.

Without a vacuum seal — but with structured friction lining — the friction plate provides additional mechanical support between the vacuum block and sacrificial board. Particularly valuable for workpieces with a small contact area, high lateral forces or porous material that does not build up sufficient vacuum.

What does the friction plate do?

• Increased frictional engagement on the sacrificial board: The structured friction lining creates mechanical grip between the vacuum block and sacrificial board — in addition to the vacuum holding force
• Prevents sideways slipping: Particularly with high feed rates, strong milling forces or lateral loads, the friction plate keeps the suction block securely in position
• Ideal for porous material: When sacrificial boards made from porous MDF or recycled material do not build up sufficient vacuum between the suction block and the board, the friction plate compensates for the loss of grip
• Protects the sacrificial board: Prevents the frame of the vacuum block from cutting into or indenting the surface of the sacrificial board
• Easy replacement: Wear part — replace simply when there is visible abrasion or reducing holding force

When is the friction plate necessary?

• High lateral forces during milling: With aggressive milling parameters, large cutter diameters or hard materials that place lateral loads on the vacuum block
• Porous or suctioning sacrificial boards: MDF sacrificial boards that "draw" vacuum and thereby reduce the holding force of the vacuum block
• Small workpieces with little contact area: When vacuum holding force alone is not sufficient to hold the workpiece securely
• Reducing holding force despite an intact vacuum system: If the suction block starts to "slip" on the sacrificial board — replace the friction plate
